The CFA has an international following, with groups in India, Russia, as well as America and other Western nations. I think that UM has the diversity and open mindedness which are essential for the survival of a group like this.
As a University student myself I believe that this is a great time in many peoples lives to get involved with organizations such as this. Most people don't even consider breaking free from their parents beliefs until their teens, and by the time they reach college most are fairly well rooted in their beliefs. For cofounders of the CFA at UM we think people firmly rooted in skepticism and nonbelief are most needed. Those still questioning where they stand are wanted too, these folks will be the focus of our recruitment and education activities.
As a Cofounder you will get to determine your own role in the alliance. Of course we would love to have people that want to spend every free moment working for the CFA, but I also realize that free time can be a precious commodity in college. It really will be up to you what you do in the CFA, and more importantly; you will get a say in the direction, goals, and activities of the group.
I personally am a sophomore returning after a year off, spent working in my home town of Helena. I hope to devote 10 or so hours each week to the CFA at UM, and I figure I'll keep my role restricted to where I am needed for the most part. I hope that this will be a great way to meet and discuss common ideas with like minded individuals, and I'm sure many great friendships will come from the CFA at UM.

In an ideal university situation, while no belief or position would be considered so sacred that it should escape free investigation, ultimately it would remain the right of each individual to come to his or her own conclusions.
